The Manchester Children’s Book Festival and its partner organisations present a number of competitions for schools and young people.
An opportunity for young writers aged between 14-18 to become Young Portico Laureates. Nominees should have already shown some talent for writing and be genuinely interested in developing this.

For ages 8 – 12 (school years 5, 6 and 7) – ideal for use in school transition projects
Presented by the Manchester Children’s Book Festival and the Manchester Writing School at MMU.
A competition that invites 8-16 year olds to respond artistically to poems that will be performed at the Carol Ann Duffy and Company event on Thursday 5th July.
Winning pieces of art will be exhibited at the Festival and will provide the back-drop to this exciting event. Artist-led workshops will be offered to participating schools.
