People's History Museum
Free. Drop in 1-4pm. All welcome
A chance for teachers and parents to find out more about what is on offer from cultural organisations from across the city and from creative practitioners.
This family-friendly event will include a lively programme of activity, with stands, workshops and mini-showcases taking place all over the museum. Most of the major cultural organisations from across the city will be there with details of their schools offers for the 2012/13 academic year (in plenty of time for planning) and you'll see creative practitioners interested in going into schools to work with pupils in action. Drop in 1-4pm and bring your family. Who says you can't mix work and pleasure? The event has been organised by the Manchester Creative Learning Network and is part of Adult Learners Week. You can download your copy of this event here.
MMU Geoffrey Manton Building
The Manchester Children’s Book Festival offers a full, two-day suite of masterclass workshops, seminars, talks and panel discussions, giving teachers, writers, librarians and arts practitioners opportunities to develop their own writing-for-children, explore critical engagements with children's books, or get "hands-on"" in arts and craft sessions.
The CPD strand can be taken as a full two-day package or individual days can be booked separately. Prices include lunch and refreshments, and tickets to Thursday and Friday evening events – including the Official Festival Launch Event with Carol Ann Duffy. Participants will be sent information packs in advance, including lists of suggested preparatory reading, and will add to these throughout the days, collecting resources that can be taken back into the classroom or workplace.
Building on the work of the Manchester Writing School, Department of English, School of Art, and Special Collections at Manchester Metropolitan University, sessions will be delivered by a team of internationally distinguished children’s writers, researchers and artists. The days will feature keynote speeches from poets and educators Mandy Coe and Michael Rosen, and their special guest educational development expert Mick Waters, on the theme of developing cutting-edge approaches to maintaining passionate and positive creativity in the class room in the face of funding cuts. Come along, join the debate.
