Sophie Willan: Stories of Care book launch at The Lowry Theatre
Monday 3rd July 2017
Stories of Care is a dynamic writing project that supports Care Leavers to tell their own stories and become high achieving creative leaders, founded by award-winning Comedian and Care Leaver, Sophie Willan.
Sophie has spent the last twelve months working with Care Leavers across Greater Manchester to develop their creative writing skills, offer a wide range of professional development opportunities and create a dynamic children’s anthology in collaboration with Care Leavers and the Stories Of Care team.
The team have worked in different ways individually with Care Leavers to develop a book for 7- 11 years olds that shares magical, funny and moving stories of children and adults who’ve lived outside of the ‘normal’ family set up.
At this culmination event you will have chance to meet the participants, celebrate the project and see the launch of the vibrant children’s book created by Care Leavers.
Louise Wallwein, Sophie Willan and Manchester Children’s Book Festival patron Alex Wheatle are among the guests coming together to meet the participants, celebrate the project and see the launch of the vibrant children’s book created by Care Leavers.
The Stories of Care project has been supported by: Arts Council England, Barbican Press, Bolton Octagon, Bolton Council, Bolton At Home, Bolton Young Person's Housing Scheme, Greater Manchester Higher, The Lowry, Manchester Children's Book Festival, Swiis Foster Care, The Big Lottery Fund and Z-arts.
